TO: ALL PERSONNEL FROM: Dale Bernard Date: December
22, 2008 RE: Commitment
to FSC and SFI Chain of Custody Certification __________________________________________________________________________ The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and The Sustainable
Forestry Initiative (SFI) have worked very diligently over the past decades
to develop a set of guidelines that help insure the sustainability of forest
resources for all future generations.
These guidelines not only protect our environment, they also protect
the future of our industry, the forest products industry. The guidelines provide landowners with a
set of Best Management Practices (BMP) to follow when harvesting timber from
their lands. These BMPs
provide a means by which the landowner may recover value from the timber on
the property while protecting the environment. Land owners who
follow the BMPs are eligible for Certification,
under either FSC or SFI. Once the
lands are certified, regular audits are conducted to
insure compliance and maintain certification.
The timber is then marketed to mills who
achieve FSC or SFI certification for their products produced from raw
material and the supply chain continues all the way to the end user. The certification process involves protecting the
integrity of the raw material from the forest to the manufacture of a
product. Then the integrity of the
product has to be maintained between manufacturing
and the end user. This is where Kellett
Building Products enters the picture.
Some of our customers request FSC and/or SFI Certified material. In
order to supply their need it is required that we become FSC and SFl Chain of Custody certified. I believe that attaining FSC and SFI certification
demonstrates our commitment to our environment, our customers, and the future
well being of our industry. Therefore,
I am committed to achieving and maintaining both FSC and SFI Chain of Custody
certification. |
